The latest on a stormy start to the weekend for parts of the South.

A batch of severe storms caused damage and outages Friday evening into early Saturday as it tore through Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana.

At least five possible tornadoes were reported, including a likely tornado that touched down just west of Coushatta, Louisiana, a town of 1,800 people located 40 miles southeast of Shreveport, around 7:35 p.m. local time. Radar indicated that this may have been a significant tornado which was on the ground for 20-25 minutes.

Two members of a Coushatta family were rescued after a downed tree landed on the roof of their home, KSLA reported. As of Friday night, widespread tree damage was reported across Coushatta by law enforcement.

A second possible Louisiana tornado was reported around 11 p.m. 10 miles southwest of Tallulah, in Madison County. 

A possible tornado was also reported just after midnight Saturday local time northwest of Briggs, Texas.

Two tornadoes were reported in Mississippi. One was confirmed Saturday morning as an EF-O tornado, which struck near Pelahatchie, Mississippi, in Rankin County around 8 p.m. local time Friday. The twister was on the ground for more than 2 miles and downed trees and power lines along its path, the National Weather Service reports. A second possible tornado was reported at 4 a.m. in Covington County.

As of Saturday morning, more than 42,000 customers were without power in the three states, according to PowerOutage.us.

According to KSLA.com, Bienville and Red River parishes both had reports of downed trees and power lines, as well as outages. Louisiana State Police Spokesman Trooper Glenn Younger told KSLA that a tornado touched down in Bossier Parish.

Golf ball-sized hail was spotted in north Texas, reports Fox4News.com.
