Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes slammed the Midwest and Ohio Valley on Sunday, flattening entire neighborhoods, turning homes and other buildings into rubble.

The residents of the town of Washington, Ill., were hit particularly hard, as evidenced in the aerials above. The town's mayor estimated that 250 to 500 buildings were destroyed, and preliminary estimates suggest that two EF4 tornadoes hit the town.
