The damage path from a deadly EF3 tornado that struck Appomattox County, Virginia, on Feb. 24,  has recently become more apparent on satellite imagery.

Though the tornado touched down more than a month ago, the scar left behind is now becoming more noticeable since vegetation is greening up adjacent to where it moved through. This is shown in the animation below comparing a satellite image from March 29, 201,  to another image before the tornado hit on Jan. 19, 2016.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Virginia, pointed out the tornado scar in a Facebook post Tuesday while overlaying the colored path from their survey of the damage.

According to that survey, the tornado was on the ground for 17 miles and damaged more than 100 homes while also causing considerable tree damage. One person was killed and seven others were injured.
