These images from space show just how much a large tornado can scar the land.

Some of the tornadoes from the late-April outbreak were so large and damaging, they left scars in the land that are visible from space.

The image above, released Tuesday by NASA, reveals the damage wrought by an EF4 tornado as it tore through Arkansas on April 27. Tornadoes left several Arkansas towns devastated near Little Rock. Hundreds of homes were destroyed and at least 16 people were killed.

President Barack Obama, who will tour damaged areas in Arkansas on Wednesday, has designated four counties as major disaster areas, according to the Associated Press.
