Severe thunderstorms are pounding the Southeast.



Severe thunderstorms are pounding the Gulf Coast and moving into the East Coast, leaving toppled trees in their wake. A funnel cloud was spotted in Miami Monday afternoon.

Here are the latest impacts:

  • Two building collapses have been reported in Anderson County, South Carolina, this afternoon – one near Sandy Springs and another near Townville, according to local emergency management. A tornado-warned thunderstorm was moving through the area at the time.
  • The National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg was knocked offline around 2 p.m. local time, and hasn't sent out any radar data since. The NWS office in Columbia, South Carolina, is backing them up and issuing warnings for their area, which has been raked by multiple severe thunderstorms.
  • A tree crashed into a home in Roswell, Georgia, and another tree collapsed onto the road in Sandy Springs, Georgia, as a severe thunderstorm moved across Atlanta's northern suburbs between 2 and 3 p.m. Hail was reported in many cities along the path of that storm.
  • Storms brought down trees and knocked out a few traffic signals in St. Petersburg, Florida.
  • Throughout Tallahassee, Florida, reports popped up of trees blocking roadways and damaging homes after a storm struck around 10:30 a.m.
  • A National Weather Service employee spotted a funnel cloud in Miami early this afternoon. Another funnel cloud was reported by a trained spotter in Boynton Beach, Florida, at 4:20 p.m.
