A tease of springtime warmth has spread across the nation's northern tier, and for some cities, that means hitting 70- and 80-degree temperature benchmarks not seen in months. The warm temperatures are also setting daily record highs in spots.

Already this week, a number of locations in the High Plains and Northern Plains chalked up their hottest weather so early in spring on Tuesday including Denver (85 degrees) and Cheyenne, Wyoming (80 degrees). Scottsbluff, Nebraska, nearly had a freeze, then soared to their record earliest-in-spring 92-degree high.

The contrast between summer heat and lingering snowpack in South Dakota was dramatic on Tuesday.

Here's a look at a few select cities and the last time they were this warm.

Midwest, Great Lakes

Minneapolis-St. Paul - The Twin Cities surpassed the 80-degree mark for the first time this year on Tuesday and has now done it twice since. The Twin Cities could do it again Friday before colder air arrives for the weekend.

Chicago, Detroit and Milwaukee - Not since Sept. 21, or the last official day of summer, had all these locations cracked the 80s until Wednesday. There's a chance these cities could hit the low 80s again on Friday.

Green Bay, Wisconsin - The northeast Wisconsin city hit 70 degrees on Monday for the first time since Nov. 10. It then soared into the 80s Wednesday for the first time since Oct. 11 and repeated on Thursday. They could do it again Friday.

Northeast

New York City - The Big Apple already hit 80 degrees earlier in the month, but on Thursday, they soared into the low 90s in Central Park, and they might surpass the 85-degree mark again Friday. Another daily record high is possible Friday.

Boston - Temperatures rose to 85 degrees Thursday. That's the first high in the 80s since Sept. 18. Temperatures will be considerably cooler on Friday, but will still be 20+ degrees warmer than average.

Burlington, Vermont - Nov. 12 was the last time it was at least 70 degrees. The city saw its first 70s and 80s on Thursday with a high of at least 87, and we'll likely see another day or two in the 70s Friday and/or Saturday.
