Heavy Rains Create Flash Floods in Palm Coast, Florida

Heavy rainfall in northeast Florida flooded roadways on Friday afternoon, stranding several cars and a school bus.

As much as 4.41 inches of rain were recorded on Bannerwood Lane in Palm Coast, which is south of St. Augustine. The National Weather Service received reports of several vehicles stranded in the floodwaters.

Flagler County Sheriff Deputy Paula Priester states that a school bus en route from Rymfire Elementary had to return back to the school due to high floodwaters.

The heavy rain event may be the beginning of a long weekend of flash flooding, as heavy rain and thunderstorms remain in the forecast for much of Florida through Sunday.
