Description

Hazardous winter conditions are expected. Total snowfall: 30 to 50 cm. Maximum wind gusts: easterly 60 km/h Tuesday. Locations: the Avalon Peninsula. Time span: Monday evening until Tuesday afternoon. Remarks: Snow will begin Monday evening, then combine with strong easterly winds to cause poor visibility in blowing snow overnight Monday night into Tuesday morning. Snowfall rates may at times exceed 5 cm per hour under heavier bands. The snow will transition through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain on Tuesday as temperatures rise above zero. A second period of poor visibility in blowing snow is possible Tuesday night as temperatures fall and precipitation changes back to snow. Winds are also expected to shift to northwesterly and further increase at this time. ### Roads and walkways will likely be very difficult to navigate. Winter Storm Warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather (such as snow, freezing rain, wind and rain) are expected or occurring. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or post reports on X using #NLwx.
