The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Molokai in Maui County Until 230 AM HST. At 1134 PM HST, A line of heavy showers with embedded thunderstorms moving in from the west is producing rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour. Reports of flooding, downed trees, and landslides have already been received from emergency management over west Molokai near Kepuhi and Paniolo. Elsewhere across the island, water levels in Kawela Gulch are already elevated, and additional heavy rainfall will worsen runoff and flash flooding impacts through the overnight hours as the heavy showers and storms expand eastward over the area. HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Significant and life threatening flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low lying areas. Multiple public road closures expected, as well as landslides in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... This includes the entire island of Molokai. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. The heavy rains may cause rock and mudslides in steep terrain areas. This warning may need to be extended beyond 230 AM HST if flooding; persists.; FLASH FLOOD...RADAR INDICATED; FLASH FLOOD DAMAGE THREAT...CONSIDERABLE

...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 1245 AM HST SATURDAY FOR THE ISLAND OF MOLOKAI IN MAUI COUNTY... WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall. WHERE...The island of Molokai in Maui County. WHEN...Until 1245 AM HST. IMPACTS...Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 932 PM HST, radar indicated scattered heavy rain showers over Molokai. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour under the heavier showers. Additional bands of heavy rain is expected over the next several hours. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Kaunakakai, Kualapuu, Hoolehua, Kalaupapa National Park, Kawela, Kamalo, Maunaloa, Ualapue, Kepuhi, Pukoo, Halawa Valley and Molokai Airport. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don't drown. A Flood Watch is also in effect for Maui County until Sunday 6 PM HST. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 1245 AM HST if flooding; persists.

WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. WHERE...The island of Oahu in Honolulu County, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and the Big Island. WHEN...Through Sunday afternoon. IMPACTS...Significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, along with property damage in urban or low lying spots due to runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A kona low developing west of the islands will draw abundant moisture northward as it strengthens and eventually departs to north early next week. Several rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall are anticipated. The heaviest rain is expected from Friday night through Saturday, except for the Big Island where the heaviest rain is expected on Sunday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
