...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM HST THIS EVENING FOR THE ISLAND OF OAHU IN HONOLULU COUNTY... At 649 PM HST, radar indicated moderate to locally heavy rain over parts of leeward and east Oahu. Rain was falling at a rate of 0.5 to 1.5 inches per hour. Additional bands of moderate to locally heavy showers will be possible through tonight. Flash Flooding is ongoing, or is expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Honolulu, Waipio, Moanalua, Halawa, Salt Lake, Aiea, Kalihi, Pearl City, Ahuimanu, Iroquois Point, Manoa, Kahaluu, Kaneohe, Waiahole, Waipahu, Waikele, Palolo, Maunawili, Waikane and Ewa Beach. At 446 PM HST, emergency management reported several roads still closed due to flooding from earlier today. Latest radar as of 445 PM is showing moderate to locally heavy showers with rain rates of 0.25 to 1 inch per hour with the heaviest rain over Wahiawa. The Wahiawa Reservoir has decreased from earlier today but still remains a concern due to additional heavy rain expected over the next few days. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Emergency management. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Wahiawa, Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Field, Haleiwa, Waialua, Mililani, Hauula, Laie, Waianae, Punaluu, Kahuku, Nanakuli, Waikane, Kaaawa, Helemano Housing, Whitmore Village, Waimea Valley, Waimea Bay, Mokuleia and Pupukea. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don't drown. The heavy rains may cause rock and mudslides in steep terrain areas. HAZARD...Flash flooding from the imminent failure of Wahiawa Dam. SOURCE...Emergency management. IMPACT...Flooding of areas downstream from the Wahiawa Dam along the Kaukonahua Stream. The nearest downstream area from the dam is Waialua, Haleiwa, and Kaukonahua Stream. This includes the following streams and drainages... Poamoho Stm- Dole Fields, Poamoho Stm- Kaukonahua Hwy, Kaukonahua Stm- Schofield, Mohiakea Gul, Waialua Town, Kaukonahua Stm- N Fork Wahiawa, Kaukonahua Stm- Wahiawa, Kiikii Stm- Waialua, Helemano/Opaeula Stm- Haleiwa, Kaukonahua Stm- Waialua and Anahulu R- Haleiwa. WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. WHERE...The island of Oahu in Honolulu County, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and the Big Island. WHEN...Through Sunday afternoon. IMPACTS...Significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, along with property damage in urban or low lying spots due to runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A kona low developing west of the islands will draw abundant moisture northward as it strengthens and eventually departs to north early next week. Several rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall are anticipated. The heaviest rain is expected from Friday night through Saturday, except for the Big Island where the heaviest rain is expected on Sunday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
