The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low relative humidity, which is in effect from noon to 8 PM MDT Monday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 314 Northern Campbell, 316 Crook County Plains, 317 Weston County Plains, 318 Wyoming Black Hills, 319 Northern Black Hills, 320 Central Black Hills, 321 Southern Black Hills, 322 Fall River County Area, 323 Northern Foot Hills, 324 Eastern Foot Hills, 325 Custer County Plains, 326 Pine Ridge Area, 329 West Central Plains, 332 Badlands Area and 333 Bennett County Area. WINDS...West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 12 percent. IMPACTS...The combination of gusty winds and low relative humidity would produce critical fire weather conditions. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. For today, gusty west winds and minimum relative humidities around 13% for southern Campbell County will create critical fire weather conditions. Monday, a strong cold front will move through the area later Monday afternoon and Monday evening. Ahead of the cold front, west winds may reach 20 to 30 mph with gusts around 45 mph as minimum relative humidities drop as low as 12%. Gusty northwest winds will occur behind the cold front. The combination may create critical fire weather conditions Monday afternoon and early evening, especially considering antecedent very dry and warm weather as well as the drought.
