WHERE...Illinois and Indiana nearshore from Winthrop Harbor IL to Michigan City IN. WHEN...From 1 PM this afternoon to 7 AM CDT Friday. IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure the vessel for hazardous conditions.

...A FRONT OVER THE WATERS... The areas affected include... Nearshore Waters from Winthrop Harbor to Calumet Harbor... Open Waters from Winthrop Harbor to Michigan City out to Mid Lake... At 1005 AM CDT, a cold front was moving southward out of Wisconsin. In the wake of the front, winds will abruptly switch out of the north and increase to near 30 knots. This front was located along a line extending from 26 nm southeast of Wind Pt. to 7 nm east of Winthrop Harbor to 8 nm west of Pleasant Prairie, moving south at 20 knots. This front will be near Wilmette Harbor around 11 AM and Chicago by noon. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass.
