...FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR NORTHERN OAHU... The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Oahu in Honolulu County Until 200 PM HST. At 1054 AM HST, additional water continued to run off into the Wahiawa Reservoir and area streams keeping water levels elevated. Flood impacts from earlier rainfall are ongoing. Despite a lull in rainfall at this time, additional areas of heavy rain are expected through the day which would exacerbate existing flooding. This is a FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY for Northern Oahu. This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SEEK HIGHER GROUND NOW! HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding. SOURCE...Stream Gauges. IMPACT...Severe flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low lying areas. Numerous public road closures expected, as well as landslides in steep terrain. Significant property damage expected to homes and other properties in low lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Wahiawa, Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Field, Haleiwa, Waialua, Mililani, Hauula, Laie, Waianae, Punaluu, Kahuku, Nanakuli, Waikane, Kaaawa, Helemano Housing, Whitmore Village, Waimea Valley, Waimea Bay, Mokuleia and Pupukea. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Move to higher ground now! This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order. Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. The heavy rains may cause rock and mudslides in steep terrain areas. IMPACT...Flooding of areas downstream from the Wahiawa Dam along the Kaukonahua Stream. The nearest downstream area from the dam is Waialua, Haleiwa, and Kaukonahua Stream. This includes the following streams and drainages... Kaukonahua Stm- Wahiawa, Waialua Town, Anahulu R- Haleiwa, Kaukonahua Stm- Schofield, Kaukonahua Stm- Waialua, Mohiakea Gul, Poamoho Stm- Kaukonahua Hwy, Kaukonahua Stm- N Fork Wahiawa, Helemano/Opaeula Stm- Haleiwa, Poamoho Stm- Dole Fields and Kiikii Stm- Waialua. Flash flooding is ongoing, especially in and around Honolulu, with flowing water on roadways and stalled vehicles. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Honolulu, Waipio, Moanalua, Halawa, Salt Lake, Aiea, Kalihi, Pearl City, Ahuimanu, Iroquois Point, Manoa, Kahaluu, Kaneohe, Waiahole, Waipahu, Waikele, Palolo, Maunawili, Waikane and Ewa Beach. WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. WHERE...The island of Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Maui, and the Big Island. WHEN...Through Sunday afternoon. IMPACTS...Significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, along with property damage in urban or low lying spots due to runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A kona low developing west of the islands will draw abundant moisture northward as it strengthens and eventually departs to north early next week. Several rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected. The heaviest rain is expected to last through Saturday, except for the Big Island where the heaviest rain is expected on Sunday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
