Description

...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM CDT SUNDAY FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR SOUTH CENTRAL AND CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS... WINDS...This evening, out of the south-southwest, sustained mainly 10 to 15 MPH and gusting up to 20 to 25 MPH. Then after midnight tonight into early Sunday morning, abruptly turning northerly behind a strong cold front and gusting at least 40 to 50 MPH. RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 10 to 20 percent this evening, but increasing to 30 to 60 percent by the time this Warning expires early Sunday morning. IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This evening, winds will decrease from what they were this afternoon and become more southerly. However, lingering effects of record-breaking heat and unusually-low relative humidity will still promote dangerous fire weather conditions. Overnight, the main concern is that any potential ongoing fires will be subject to a sharp/abrupt shift to strong north winds behind a surging cold front. Please note that these north winds will not reach counties along and south of the Kansas border until shortly after this Warning officially expires. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
