The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Special Marine Warning for... Big Island Leeward Waters... Until 100 PM HST. At 1152 AM HST, a thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located 9 nm northwest of FAD Buoy F, or 14 nm southwest of Kona International Airport, moving northeast at 5 knots. HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Locations impacted include... Honokohau Harbor and Keahole Point. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Prepare for gusty winds, steep and fast-building seas, and blinding downpours. Stay low or go below, and make sure all on board are wearing life jackets. Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. WHERE...Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and the Big Island. WHEN...Through this afternoon. IMPACTS...Significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, along with property damage in urban or low lying spots due to runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A kona low, currently north of the islands, has drawn abundant moisture northward. Rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall are anticipated. The heaviest rain is expected to last through tonight. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
