Hazardous surf along north facing reefs and dangerous rip currents along north and east facing reefs of the Marianas

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CHST MONDAY... ...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE SUNDAY NIGHT... WHAT...Large breaking waves 7 to 9 feet, building up to 12 feet, and dangerous rip currents. WHERE...Hazardous surf along north facing reefs and dangerous rip currents along north and east facing reefs of the Marianas. WHEN...Until 6 AM ChST Monday. IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Northeast trade swell and longer-period north to northeast swell are generating a high risk of rip currents along north and east facing reefs and hazardous surf along north facing reefs. Northeast trade swell continues to build through the weekend where surf could reach up to 12 feet along north and east facing reefs, extending hazardous surf to east facing reefs. Swell may stay elevated Monday, which may warrant an extension. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
